Dear All,

The Security situation prevailing these days is well known to us, and while we have to continue with our work and
social routines, it is useful to remind ourselves of the perils which surround us.

Personal protection is largely a matter of common sense. Most people have an in-built sense of survival and avoid
situations that may endanger themselves.

The following will update on some important aspects to be aware of and consider during the course of each day. It is

by no means exhaustive, yet keeping them in mind will Inshallah help us all to be safe and secure to the extent possible.

1. Traveling to and from Work

Use main roads and avoid wherever possible, single lanes, badly lit roads and remote areas. Have a companion if possible when traveling. Ignore road users who speed, cut across or obstruct. Road rage is common and many carry weapons. Some are quite willing to use for intimidating.

Always lock doors first before driving off. Ensure car is locked when parked. Watch your rearview mirror and be aware of any vehicle following you, change route and keep driving. Do not stop to investigate

2.Traveling out of Town

Be familiar with area, keep in touch with colleagues, customers in that area. Use own transport or reputable Taxi companies.

3. Travel for Children And families

Accompany young children to school

Park cars safely in school areas, many unfortunate incidents occur at school closing times. If children use public transport or vans, ensure that they are reputable and have been checked out. Avoid sending children shopping, or to friends homes, restaurants unaccompanied.

4. Personal Identification

Always carry NIC, driving License and Company ID cards. Ensure documents of private cars/ motor cycles are in order. When giving out photocopies of NIC, always cross out on both sides and write purpose of use. Be extra vigilant when buying new SIM cards. Numerous incidents of multiple SIMS issued to one NIC have been reported.

5. Domestic Servants

Check credentials/ references. Keep copies of NIC / Driving License of all servants, guards, drivers. Register
domestics with local Police station.

6. Home/Office Safety

Display address on gate, avoid names and titles. Keep the entrance well lit and locked at all times, particularly at night

For offices use multiple locks, chains to secure entrance. Employ technology, CCTV, Security alarm systems, Intercoms, Bell sirens etc to the extent possible and affordable. Always ask for visitor identification before allowing access

7. Be Ready for Emergencies

Keep a list of emergency phone numbers handy in cell phone / wallet / laptop. Hospitals, Edhi, CPLC, Police Help lines. Be alert for people acting suspiciously. Enough news accounts of recent incidents tell us the how disguises have been used. Terrorists are innovative and evil, they will do anything to harm.

Report, alert immediately. Remember ignoring and walking away may save you, but put someone else in danger. Lives are priceless, and should be valued. The tips above are basic and serve as reminders only. We will continue to
add to this going forward.

Hope the day is not too far when all of us will be able to move around as freely and safely again.
