If you search online for the term Gilgit Baltistan, there comes some shocking result officially available on Wikipedia as Gilgit Bltistan United Movement. This movement was started for the welfare of Northern Areas. Main aim was to earn an autonomy for the areas we all know as Northern Areas which includes Gilgit and Baltistan.

This movement was then seen to be involved in an agenda to get independent rights and land including these two states but as an Independent state with the name Islamic Republic of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Recognizing this fact government of Pakistan has decided to agree the autonomy of the Northern Areas, as they were given a very neglected state image in past years by all ruling governments.

This saturday Prime Minister declared this after a special cabinet meeting.

The Northern areas will be renamed to ‘Gilgit Baltistan’ and will have a province like status, Prime Minister Gilani announced on Saturday.

Following with this declaration Gilgit-Balistan will be given a status of a seperate province with the equal rights of other 3 provinces. This will include:

  • Assembly council with a total of 15 members.
  • Seperate governor, chief minsiter and six other ministers of Gilgit.

PML-N has also welcomed this decision by the government as another productive effort towards the mutual commitment of both PML-N and PPP are committed to the Charter of Democracy (CoD).
