Pakistani Political Animal Farm
Whenever I’ve thought about contemporary politics of Pakistan, several strange connotations bubble up in my mind: injustice, corruption, indecency, immorality, terrorism, etc. It’s not unusual! Trust me. And it’s not Pakistan where all these things prevail in their worst form. Many countries can be cited as examples.
Where many countries indulged into corruption, the literary figures there, unlike our ‘revered’ poets and writers, except for few, struggled against the tyranny and corruption found in the politics of their respective countries. For example, Animal Form (1945) by George Orwell (1903-1950) is a perfect attack on such government which inherited the above cited attributes. “..though Animal Farm was written as an attack on a specific government, its general themes of oppression, suffering, and injustice have far broader application; modern readers have come to see Orwell’s book as a powerful attack on any political, rhetorical, or military power that seeks to control human beings unjustly.“(Sparknotes)
I believe, Animal Form goes more with Pakistani Politics than Russia and the Soviet Union under Communist Party rule, intended by Orwell.
You may agree with me after you know what the novel has to say: in depicting the internal structure of a nation, a government is symbolized by the pigs, a police force or army by the dogs*, and a working class by the other animals.
Hope you all agree that PAKISTAN is a real AnimalFarm!!
