7 to 8 Digit Conversion of Mobile Numbers

PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) has ordered all the cellular companies to convert all the mobile numbers into an 8-digit format. The changes will take effect with effect from April 01, 2008. How will the number be changed? Where will the 8^th digit come from? Will the number along with the code consist 12 digits?

Well, the last digit of the code will become a part of the number and the code will be of 3 digits. For example:

Moreover, Mobilink and Ufone user numbers won’t be affected, as in new number system they enjoy same code but the last digit in old number is transfered to the 7 digits making it 8. e.g. Old ufone code 0333-2xxxxxx and in new number system 033-32xxxxxx.
